Frequently Asked Question
Instructions for the Juliet Braille Embosser
An Enabling Technologies Juliet Braille Embosser is set up for use on the first floor of Hillman Library. The computer that sits next to the embosser is designed to work with this device, and other Library machines will not be able to use this device over the network. Duxbury Braille Translator (DBT) software has been installed for use on this computer; this software will translate a document and send it to the embosser. Braille instructions for the device are also available next to the computer.
Opening and Configuring Duxbury Braille Translator
- Open DBT 11.1. The shortcut for this program can be found on the Desktop and in the Accessibility folder in the start menu.
- Click OK on any prompts that come up while the software is loading.
- In the Duxbury Braille Translator (DBT) software, select the Global menu, and then select "Embosser Setup ... ".
- Once a document has been loaded, it will not be affected by changes made to the Global Embosser Setup. However, you can change the embosser settings for that document only by selecting "Embosser Setup ... " under the Document Menu.
- Under Brailler Device, select "Enabling Juliet Classic"
- To emboss both sides of the paper, check the box next to "Emboss in lnterpoint". Uncheck to emboss on one side only.
- Ensure that the "Binding margin in characters" setting is set to prevent the embosser from embossing over the binding holes. This value can be increased to leave more space in the left margin.
Load, Translate, and Emboss a Document
- Under the File menu, select "New" to create a new document, or select "Open" to open a previously created Duxbury document. Other document file types, such as Microsoft Word, can also be opened.
- under the File menu, select "Translate" to translate the document into Braille for embossing.
- Under the File Menu, select "Emboss" to send the document to the embosser.
- Do not select "Print" from the File menu. This will not send formatting to the embosser, and therefore the document will not be embossed correctly.
