Using The snipping tool to take a screenshot
The snipping tool is an application built into windows to help take screenshots. This is an easy way to take a screenshot. You might want to take a screenshot to add to documentation. The IT department might also ask for screenshot what is happening on your devices if issues are reported.
- To use the windows snipping tool type snipping tool into the search field on the windows task bar.
- With the snipping tool open click on new or press ctrl key + n key to start a new snip. Your screen will darken, and your mouse pointer will change to a cross. Hold down the left mouse button and drag it over the area you want to take a picture of and release the left mouse button when done.
- The snipping toll will show a preview of the screenshot and you can then click the save icon to save it to a folder.
- A standard save dialog box will show on the left-hand side choose the folder you want to save the screenshot too. Which folder doesn’t matter but it is important to save it somewhere you will remember. Similarly give your screenshot a unique name that you will remember and then hit save.
- Once saved it navigate to the folder you saved it too. You should see the file and you can attach it to an email or insert it into a document like other image files.
