Frequently Asked Question

Accessing teams’ audio settings
Last Updated a year ago

Pre-Requisites

Microsoft Teams has application specific settings for choosing what audio device to use for playing sound and settings for which microphone to use. Since these settings are different than your computer audio settings, Audio can often play from different audio devices than what is set on your computer. If you find in a Teams call that you cannot hear other people or speak to them, these settings are likely the reason.

Procedure

To change these settings, Open teams. Click on the three horizontal dots in the upper right corner of teams.

Chose settings from the menu that opens.

Click on the Devices menu option on the left. You will see under audio devices what audio devices Teams is set up to use. Right now, I have teams set up to use my headphones as the speaker and microphone. Set up like this teams will play the sound of other people talking through my headphones and will pick up my voice through the microphone in the headphones.

If I click the dropdown menu under audio devices, I can change which audio device to use. This menu will list any audio device you have connected to your computer. I could for example change my audio to PC mic and speakers. If I did this my sound would come out of my computer speakers and microphone.
