How to request additional hardware or software
Last Updated 8 months ago

Below describes the procedure for requesting new hardware or software. Please follow this procedure before installing software yourself.

Hardware and Software Request Procedures

All requests for hardware and software are made through the Hardware and Software Request form, available on the ULS Behind the Scenes site.

Send requests for furniture to Jeanann Croft Haas (jeanann@pitt.edu)

Supply request procedures can be found on the ULS Behind the Scenes site here.

All hardware and software requests are reviewed by the IT department to assess requirements, resources and security concerns. Additional consultation may take place with the requestor before the request moves forward.

Hardware and software requests that require purchases in the ULS are subject to the approval of the requestor’s:

  • Supervisor
  • AUL or Director
  • Director of Information Technology
  • ULS Budget Manager

Requests for free software (open source software, “free” license, or software licensed to Pitt staff and faculty and available through https://software.pitt.edu) require only the approval of requestor’s Supervisor.

Approval responsibilities

Approvers who receive requests for hardware or software will email their approval to the next person within the approval chain. Once approved by the ULS Budget Manager, the IT department will contact the user to inform them of the status of their request as well as an estimated time to purchase and deploy the requested item.

Standards

An up-to-date list of equipment standards, including current standards for desktop, mobile, accessories can be found on the ULS Behind the Scenes site. Standard computer accessories such as mouse, keyboard, monitor and webcam will be approved upon request and are not subject to the approval process outlined here.
